International Week is an annual event that proudly organized by the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM). In 2014, for the very first time, FEB UGM introduces a short academic program that may enable professionals as well as undergraduate and graduate students to gain greater understanding on ASEAN.

This year, iWEEK is being held virtually with the Grand Theme of Digital Transformation and Sustainability in The Global Business Environment.

Following Covid-19 pandemic, countries are struggling to regain the momentum of growth and prosperity from the fast changing phase of the global market economy as most countries acquired in the past. The pandemic has seen companies around the world accelerate the digitalization of their clients, supply chain interactions, and internal operations for three to four years. While the spread of Covid-19 has rapidly digitized business around the world, many developing countries are still plagued by inadequate technology infrastructure, limiting their capacity to fully capitalize opportunities in the disruption. This leaves room for public and private sectors around the world, including educational institutions to collaborate on closing this gap.

Departing from the concerns, it is important to note that human capital investment particularly in the form of education development at the higher level is one of the most important aspects to be prepared and nurtured to support the world’s economy during this digital era. Enhancing human capacity through academic programs that understand a better understanding of world business and economy may not be beneficial in reducing divergent views through opening up mental barriers between academics in developing countries, but also in the broader goal of inviting more global citizens to understand, promote, support, and contribute to achieving the sustainable development of a digital-based global economy.

To support the vision above, the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) as one of ASEAN’s leading business and economic schools as well as the chairman of the ASEAN University Network Business and Economics (AUN-BE) Network initiated a solid collaboration between business schools and economic faculties in a global scope to organizing the 7th FEB UGM International Week with the topic “Digital Transformation and Sustainability in a Global Business Environment”. This program is attempting to be able to align the needs for academic and human capacity building in preparing the world’s society in taking the role for digital transformation and sustainable development at this era.
